The Mt. Vernon Cemetery is hard to find and is very much neglected. It is located in S20 - T33 - R12 in Sedan Township. It is located in a wooded pasture on top of a hill and was found only after much searching and inquiry. There was a school house at one time near the cemetery but the building is gone and only a pile of stones remains. There is a gate in the pasture fence at the road but the road up the hill is largely neglected. The first burial is that of Flora Severns, a 2 month old baby in June 1872 and the last is that of Vienna Young in 1934. The cemetery does have a good fence around it and several tall graceful old cedar trees. The stones are not cared for as many were stacked here and there and when one falls over it is left. G. Herman Guy read this on 1 May 1984.
