ROUND MOUND CEMETERY
CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, KANSAS

The Round Mound Cemetery is a good sized cemetery located one mile west of Wauneta and then 3 miles north. It’s on top of a mound which bears that name. It is located in S22 - T33 -R 9 in Jefferson Township. It has approximately 800 burials in it and is actively used today. There are lots of stones with no names or ones you can’t read. The first burial appears to be that of James Sterling who died 16 Oct 1872. Joe Leonard read this cemetery in 1982 and I, (G. Herman Guy) re-read it and updated it in Oct. 1984. It is easily accessible and is along a well traveled county road.
