FERN WILLIAMS
CHOKED TO DEATH
Infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Williams Dead
Strangulation induced by some foreign substance placed in its mouth, caused the death Sunday night of Fern Williams the year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams. Living west of Sedan at the gasoline station where Mr. Williams is employed.
While the mother was engaged in preparation of supper the baby was playing on the floor when it began to choke. Finding the efforts to dislodge whatever caused it futile, help was hastily summoned, Mr. Williams walking a quarter of a mile to the nearest house, that of Charley Adams which she reached in a state of exhaustion. Returning with her Mr and Mrs Adams and others gave what assistance they could. In the mean time physicians summoned from Sedan arrived but found life practically extinct, the barely breathing only a few times. It was impossible for them to discover the cause of the strangulation without a post mortem which the parents did not wish held. The baby was in perfect health up to the time of the accident being particularly bright and active child.
Funeral services were conducted at the family home at 12:30 Monday by Rev. J R Edwards, pastor of the Sedan Baptist church, and again at Chautauqua where services were conducted at the United Brethern church by Rev. Howe. Interment was in the Chautauqua cemetery.
Relatives and friends accompanying the family to Chautauqua were Mr and Mrs Alivn Williams, Mr and Mrs Levi Williams, Mr and Mrs. Tina Wall, Mr and Mrs. Chas Adams, Mr and Mrs Ben Wemmer, Mr and Mrs George Warmbrodt, Mr and Mrs Les Walker, Mrs. Holbrook, Levi Williams, Ira and Hiram Williams, Albert Straight and James McAfee.
The death of the baby was a terrible shock to the parents and adds another to the list of causalities occurring the past few months in the vicinity. They have the sincere sympathy of their many friends and entire community.
