MRS. BETTY J YADON
Betty Jean Yadon, age 74, of Sedan, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27,2007 in the loving arms of her family at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1933 in Greenville, Ill., to James Thomas McElroy Sr. and Laura Frances (Dean) McElroy. She was the youngest daughter of seven children. She attended school in Salem, Ill.
She married Arthur Yadon on Aug. 20,1981 in Arkansas City. After their marriage, they lived in rural Chautauqua County and the last fifteen years in the city of Sedan.
She was a homemaker and worked at the Sedan movie theatre and Shares Colorado. She was also a member of the Church of Christ of Sedan. She was a loving wife, mother and a friend to all.
She was the mother of eight children, twenty-three grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Arthur Yadon of Sedan; children Brenda Collins of Bakersfield, Calif., Randall Holland I of LaPort, Ind., Ronald Holland Sr. of Hobart, Ind., Rebecca Holland of Sedan, Tim Yadon of Hobart, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James McElroy Jr.; her sons, Billy and James Holland and her daughter Eula Faye Graham.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at the Church of Christ in Sedan with Joe Thomas officiating. Interment followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pleasant Valley Manor or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361. David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.
MRS. GEORGIA BELLE YELTON
Georgia Belle Yelton passed away on Friday, May 11, 2001 at the Eden Gardens in Statesville, North Carolina. She was 93 years of age and a former resident of Longton, Kansas. Suezy, as she was sometimes known, was born on June 28, 1907 near Longton, Kansas to George and Rosa Zetta Bell (Zinn) Dunlop who farmed north of Longton. She graduated from high school and grew to womanhood in the Longton community.
On June 28, 1928, she married Rev. Hurvey H. Yelton. Rev. Yelton preceded her in death on April 12, 1976. She was a devoted wife and mother, and dedicated her life to caring for her family.
She was a member of the North Pointe Christian Church of Statesville, North Carolina.
She is survived by her sons, Melvin J. Yelton and his wife Jane (Gaither)Yelton of Statesville, North Caroline and G. Don Yelton and his wife Betty (Brown) Yelton of Springfield, Georgia; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Private interment was held at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas. A memorial has been established with the North Pointe Christian Church, 2228 Wilkesboro Hwy, Statesville, North Carolina 28625. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. Local arrangements were mad with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.
MRS. AMANDA L. YOKE
Amanda Lee (Edmundson) “Mandy” Yoke, 79, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002.
Amanda was born Feb. 21, 1923 at Elgin, Kan., where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class in 1940; She moved to Wichita, where she was employed by Boeing Co. During WWII, she worked for the U. S. Army and after the war, for the Veterans Administration. She was active in all school activities, health fairs and volunteer work for the Red Cross. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, George, son and daughter-in- law, George L. and Rachel, Marrietta, Ga., grandchildren, Elisabeth, Naomi, Martha and David Yoke, all of Marrietta, Ga., niece, Pam Bjork, Evergreen, Colo. and grand nephews, Garrett and Justin Bjork.
MR. HENRY A. YORK
Henry A. York, agc 90. of Sedan, Kansas died Saturday, February 16, 2002, in Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
Services are pending and will be announced by the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
MRS. ESTELLA YOUNG - Submitted by Freida Wells
Mrs. Estella Young, 64, died in a Winfield hospital Wednesday morning, December 13, after an illness of five months. Mrs. Young is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Cecil Hall, Sedan, Mrs. Thelma Long, Kingman, Mrs. Etta Pumpelly and Mrs. Melba Jean Williams, both of Winfield, four sons, Earl Young, Peru, Charles Young, Chase, William R. Young of the U. S. Army and Eugene J. Young, U. S. Army, stationed at Carlsbad, New Mexico; and fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from out of town relatives.
Lena was born April 15, 1931 in Elgin, Kan. to Ray and Mae (Niblack) Bowen. She grew up in the Bowing, Okla. area, where she attended school and graduated from Bowring High School. Following high school, she attended Business College in Wichita.
She married Howard Young, and they later separated.
Mrs. Young was employed as an upholsterer at Beech Aircraft Co. in Wichita until her retirement. She had attended the Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Winn, El Dorado, Kan., one son, Jim Young, Balko, Okla., three sisters, Kay Dale, Wichita, Kan., Frances Seaman, Mulvane, Kan., and Jessie Latta, Moore, Okla., seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, in the First Christian Church in Sedan. Burial was in the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale.

MRS. MILDRED R. YOUNG
Mildred R. Young age 80, died December 13, 2001 at Wichita, Kansas. She was a retired Cosmetologist. She was born May 3, 1921 at Wakita, Oklahoma to Virgil Anderson Greathouse and Gladys Ruth Bloom. She married William R. Young Sr. on December 13, 1937 at Sedan, KS. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two infant children.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William R. Young, Jr. and Rita, Wichita, KS, two daughters and son-in-laws, Barbara and Raymond Grier, Wichita, KS and Carole and Arnie Grossnickle, Maize, KS, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, December 17,2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Chapel Mausoleum.

MRS. SYDNIA L. YOUNG
Sydnia Lyn Young, age 54, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, June 14,2001, at her home in Cedar Vale.
Born September 14, 1946 in Ashland, Kansas, she was the daughter of Glen and Ruby (Crane) Rice. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Cedar Vale. She received her education and graduated in 1964 from Cedar Vale High School.
On July 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to Michael A. Young in Wichita, KS. They later made Cedar Vale their home. In 1981, she began working at the Cedar Vale Nursing Center in the activities department, where she was a Director and Social Worker. She was employed there until she became ill.
She was a member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Cedar Vale. She was also a member of the Hewins E.H.U., served on the Chautauqua County Fair Board, was a Republic Committeewoman for the Harrison Township and a Precinct Committeewoman for Chautauqua County. She enjoyed singing, playing bridge and her pets.
Her family includes her husband, Michael A. of the home, a son, Michael Glen and wife, Sunny, Cedar Vale, KS, a daughter, Lorri Pontious and husband, John, Kingfisher, OK, grandchildren, Adam Pontious, Chelsea Pontious, Uriah Donnelly and Jasper Young, and her mother, Ruby Rice. She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Rice.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ozro Cemetery southeast of Cedar Vale, KS.
Memorials have been established in Mrs. Young's name for the Cedar Vale Nursing Center and Hospice, Inc. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were held in honor of Theodore Young in his home at Peru, Kansas Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Edwin G. Michael, pastor of the First Christian Church in Sedan was in charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in the Peru cemetery with R. I. Buckles funeral director in charge.
Theodore Young was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, April 5, 1869. He departed this life at 2:45 o'clock March 10, 1935 at the age of 66 years. He was united in marriage to Estella Underwood in 1900. To this union twelve children were born four of whom preceded their father in death.
The deceased came to Peru, Kansas in 1904 where he resided continuously until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Estella Young, and his eight children; Earl Young, Peru, Kansas, Charles, Billie and Eugene of the home; Mrs. Cecil Hall, Sedan, Kansas; Mrs. Arthur Long, Kingman, Kansas; Mrs. Robert Pumpelly, Sedan, Kansas and Miss Melba Jean at home; also one brother, Will Young, Wichita, Kansas; one sister Mrs. J. W. Walters, Wichita, Kansas and nine grandchildren, together with a host of friends.
MR. WILLIAM R. YOUNG
William R. Young, Sr., age 81, passed away December 3, 2001 in Wichita Kansas.
He was born February 2,1920 at Peru, Kansas to Theodore and Estella (Ellinwood)Young. He married Mildred Greathouse on December 13, 1937 in Sedan, KS. He was a retired Petroleum Maintenance Contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, Park City, KS, son and daughter-in-law, William R Young, Jr. and Rita, Wichita, KS, daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Raymond Grier, Wichita, KS, daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Arnie Grossnickle, Maize, KS, sister, Melba Williams, Monroe, GA, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by both his parents, several brotlers and sisters and two infant children.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 6, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Chapel Mausoleum in Wichita, KS.

MR. BILLY D. ZIMMERMAN
CEDAR VALE, Kan. Billy Dean Zimmerman, age 78, of Cedar Vale, Kan., died Fnday, March 11, 2005, at the Wm. Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kan.
He was born Feb. 26, 1927, the son of Ralph Waldo and Dona Marie (Cole) Zimmerman. He attended seven years of school at Hewins, Kan. and then attended Cedar Vale High School, graduating in 1945, receiving the American Legion Medal of Honor. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U. S. Army Infantry and Engineers, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
He marned Vera L. Hawkins in 1947, and to this union Jimmie, Judy and Janolee were born. They were later divorced. In 1961, he married Orena Vea (Kennedy) Thomas and adopted her sons, Jack Edwin and Charles Sam. They resided in Gravatte, Ark, where Billy owned Bills Auto Service and B&O Used Cars until 1978, when a riding mower overturned and disabled. They moved to Cedar Vale, where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his son and his wife, Jack and Shirley Zimmerman, Cedar Vale, Kan., three grandchildren, one great grandson and a sister, Betty Robertson, Camarillo, Calif.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Creek Cemetery west of Cedar Vale.
Memorials have been established with the Cedar Vale Community Hospital.

MR. CONRAD ZIMMERMAN - Submitted by Linda Gardner
C.W.(Conrad Wesley) Zimmerman living about three miles northwest of Cedar Vale, died last Friday, May 22nd, of heart failure, about 12:30 p.m. Mr. Zimmerman had been in poor health since he was dragged by a team last fall, but a few days before the time of his death was feeling the best he had felt for some time. He had eaten his dinner and was sitting in the room talking with his two sons. During the conversation he suddenly dropped over and before his sons could reach him he had breathed his last. The funeral services were conducted at the house and the interment was made in the Zimmerman cemetery Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Zimmerman was born in Ross County, Ohio, June 28, 1846; moved to Illinois where he resided for some time. Here he was married to Miss Maggie Pierce on August 1, 1867. He moved to Kansas in 1870 and settled in Neosho county at Erie. After a year spent there he removed to Cowley County and settled on the farm where he had resided ever since.
MR. EMANUEL ZIMMERMAN - Submitted by Linda Gardner
Died---At his home about 2 miles northwest of Cedar Vale at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12th, 1894, of gall stones in the bladder and pneumonia, Emanuel Zimmerman.
Mr. Zimmerman was born 1848 and was 46 years old when he died. He, with his family moved to Kansas in 1870 and located in this neighborhood in '71 where they have resided ever since. Mr. Zimmerman was, up to three weeks ago, in apparent height of health and strength, but was taken down with intense pain and agony which continued until he died. He leaves a wife and two daughters besides hosts of other near and dear friends to mourn his loss. The remains were laid away to rest in the Cedar Creek Cemetery on Thursday afternoon.
MRS. ISABELLE ZIMMERMAN - Submitted by Linda Gardner
Isabelle Pierce was born in Breckinridge County, KY., October 30, 1851 and departed this life November 16, 1923 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bingham.
When a small girl she moved with her parents to Illinois. On August 26, 1869 at Hire, Illinois she was married to Emanuel Zimmerman. To this union were born seven children. Her husband and five children having preceded her in death. Two daughters, Mrs. Bingham and Mrs. Quillen were at her bedside when death came. In the year of 1870, she with her husband and family, moved to Neosho County, Kansas. One year later they moved to the farm home where she lived until death.
She united with the Church of Christ in the year of 1891 and was in the fellowship of the church when the end came. Toward the close of her life the tired, wearied body and mind little by little gave way. All that loving hands of daughters devoted to mother and remaining with her as her only companion and helper could do was done. During all her long life Mrs. Zimmerman has been a good kindly helpful neighbor and friend.
She leaves to mourn her departure two daughters, five grandchildren, and three great-grand children and a number of relatives and a host of friends.
MS ORENA ZIMMERMAN
Orena Zimmerman, age 73, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 5, 2000, at the Cedar Vale Hospital.

MRS. SARAH M. ZIMMERMAN - Submitted by Linda Gardner
Sarah Margaret Pierce Zimmerman was born in Buchanan(sic) (was Breckenridge) county, Ky. February 14, 1839 and departed this life March 20, 1917, her age at death being 78 years, one month and 6 days.
In early life she moved with her parents to McDonough County, Illinois, at which place she was married to C.W. Zimmerman August 1, 1867.
In the year 1871 Brother and Sister Zimmerman left Illinois and moved to Neosho County, Kansas and the following year into Cowley county, where they have since made their home.
Sister Zimmerman obeyed the Gospel of Christ, under the preaching of Bro. Frazier about 28 years and had up to the time of her death been a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She was loved while living and we mourn because of her death, but "we mourn not as those who have no hope."
The writer offered a few comforting remarks at the residence; then a large concourse of people accompanied the remains to the Cedar Creek Cemetery and laid her remains to rest until the resurrection of the just.

"Death Claims Frank Zimmerman, Founder of Toy Village Here"
Death has claimed William Frank Zimmerman, 90, long-time resident of Cedar Vale. he died in the Sedan City hospital Tuesday.
Frank was the owner of the Toy Village which he began building in 1933. It gained nation-wide attention and thousands of tourists have looked over his replicas of all the buildings in Cedar Vale.
He drove a school bus for 20 years and was a train dispatcher for the Santa Fe and Mo Pac for 30 years.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Jess Goss of Yates Center officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Vale Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Don Hankins, Vic Hollister, Ernest Wilkinson, Kenneth Dunn, S.W. House and Floyed Goode.
William Fran Zimmerman was born in Neosho (sic) County, Illinois, July 15, 1868, the son of Conrad Wesley and Sarah Margaret Pierce. He was the eldest of six children, four boys and two girls. He departed this life at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 16 days. Frank was converted at an early age and lived a faithful life to the end.
He was united in marriage to Ida Mabel Bell on Dec. 14, 1909. He leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful wife, one son, Earl Eugene of Longview, Washington, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, one brother, Henry, of Cedar Vale, and a host nephews and nieces, relatives and friends.
He moved to Kansas with his parents in 1871. Frank was active in farming for a number of years, moving here in 1917. Over 40,000 people have registered at his place to see the Toy Village he created. Frank was a devoted friend to all who came his way and will be greatly missed.
